15 little self-care tips to try this week

If you follow us here at Zing, you know we are all about small wins, little and often. And it’s the same when it comes to self-care. We know that life is busy, and it can be hard to find time to juggle all our responsibilities and the overwhelming demands of an increasingly digital and over-gadgetised world!

Self-care definitely means different things to different people, but really, it’s all about finding and creating opportunities to pause and look after your own mind, body and soul. 💛

“You cannot pour from an empty cup. You must fill your cup first.”

We think we can all benefit from working a few small self-care habits into our daily behaviours, to protect and improve our own health, wellbeing and wellness. Self-care isn’t something that will happen without your active input – so we’ve compiled a list of our top tips to help you find the self-care routines that work for you.

1. Soothing Sounds

Listening to some calming music at the busiest points in your day can be a great way to relax your mind. Many people listen to white noise or even sounds of nature to destress or meditate.

2. Meditation

This means different things for different people – it can be just standing and looking out the window whilst you enjoy a coffee or silently watching the clouds float by.

3. Create an uplifting image library

Taking some time to look through some happy photos can be a great way to unwind. Everyone loves the feeling you get when flipping through an old family album. Save some of your favourite pictures to your special album on your phone which you can go back to.

4. Simple bedtime/morning routines

Getting the right amount of sleep is crucial to a happy and productive day. Many of us struggle with sleep but creating simple bedtime rituals can help you drift off more easily – try switching off all tech, having a shower or drinking a warming tea at similar times each night.

5. Write down a nice compliment you received

It’s easy to forget when someone says something nice, but those little pick-me ups can help you boost your mood throughout the day. Start a little ‘compliments’ note on your phone which you can add to and revisit for moments of happy reflection.

6. Scratch something off your to-do list

We love the buzz of getting something we’ve been meaning to do crossed off our to-do list. Starting the day with a few small tasks will give you a great sense of achievement.

7. Have a mini-declutter

A clean space means a clean mind, set aside some time to clean your desk, room or car.

8. Unplug for an hour

A constant feed of notifications can fluster anyone, why not switch your phone to airplane mode every now and then so you can focus on your day?

9. Try a different route to work

It’s so easy to go into auto-pilot when commuting to work but trying a different route can help to keep your mind awake and healthy – especially if you switch your bus ride for a walk.

10. Play Time

Make sure you always make time for a bit of silliness, share a joke with your friend in the kitchen or sing along to your favourite song. Laughter is a great stress buster.

11. Free Writing

A great way to let go of pent up stress or worries is to freely write down all your thoughts in a journal or a piece of paper, accept everything you’re feeling and then just let it go.

12. Allocate yourself some me time

It’s important to book in self-care dates with yourself to recharge and also invest in the things that are important to you. Set aside one night a week to chill out and get an early night!

13. Exercise

Keeping active and fit helps to keep your body and mind healthy. We love to run off the stresses of the day and get those happy endorphins flowing with a good work out.

14. Surround yourself with good people

Hanging out with the right people makes such a difference to your day. Try to stick with happy, positive and supportive friends, and the same goes for your digital friends and network!

15. Be with nature

Get out outside and see the world whenever you can, the fresh air will do you good. Why not bring nature to you and get yourself some fresh flowers, a tonne of research shows that nature can do wonders for your mind, read all about it here. Letterbox flowers are a great mood booster, to be able to come home and get a chance to arrange and create something beautiful for yourself – what could be better?
