MEET OUR FLORIST - ASTA
At Zing Flowers, our florists work hard to make sure each and every bouquet that leaves our warehouse is sure to make the perfect gift, surprise or present.
We caught up with one of our Zing Flowers florist’s Asta, to find out what she loves about being a florist:
Tell us a bit about your background and what inspired you to become a florist?
I’ve been working with flowers for over 16 years now. When I was younger, my mother used to grow some spectacular blooms in her garden and it was this that inspired me to work with flowers. One of the best things about being a florist is being able to design new bouquets, using flowers from different seasons and a variety of colours. How can you not love the fresh smell of eucalyptus, armfuls of sunflowers in summer and the fragrances of winter foliage?
What is your favourite flower?
Peonies are my favourite, I love the way they bloom, they’re so fragrant and wonderful to work with. I think it’s amazing how big they get when they open from such a small and tiny head.
What is your favourite Zing Flowers bouquet?
My favourite is the Summer Celebration bouquet – it has a cheerful feel about it and always brings a smile to someone’s face when they see it. I think the bright and vibrant colours bring memories of long summer days filled with sunshine. It makes the perfect birthday or anniversary gift, or even a ‘thank you’ or ‘thinking of you’.
What makes a good bouquet?
When it comes to creating a bouquet, you have lots of components to think about; taking time to carefully select the right flowers for each occasion is especially important.
I start by carefully selecting the flowers that suit specific occasions. I then pick out my favourite stem and build the arrangement around it, adding additional flowers for support. A great bouquet is full of strong colours, has a nice shape and highlights key flowers within the bouquet.
I want every bouquet we make to create happiness and put a smile on someone’s face.
